अंतवासी

कभी पढ़ा था की लोहिया शहरवासियों को अंतवासी कहते थे। आदिवासी का विपरीतार्थक अंतवासी। सृष्टि की शुरूआत में रहने वाले आदिवासी और अंत में रहने वाले अंतवासी। वो आदि था क्योंकि तब सब नया था - जल, जंगल, जीव, जंतु और इंसान। इंसान तो रहता भी जंगल में ही था ।

जब सब का अंत होने लगेगा, -जल जंगल, जीव, जंतु -तब अंत होगा ।

इंसान मगर रहेगा, भले ही थोड़ी देर तक, अंत देखने के लिए । बिना इंसान के आदि और अंत का संदर्भ/context कौन समझ पाएगा ।

अंत वासियों के बारे में ख़याल यूँ आया क्यूँकि मैं आबू धाबी में World Urban forum में कुछ दिनों से था । वहाँ कुछ सुना जो इससे पहले भी बहुत सालों से सुनता आ रहा हूँ । वो ये कि आने वाले समय में 40 फ़िर 50 फ़िर 70 प्रतिशत दुनिया शहरी होने वाली है। या लोहिया जी की परिभाषा के मुताबिक़ बहुत जल्द ही इस दुनिया में 70 प्रतिशत अंतवासी होंगे। तो मैं सोचने लगा कि जब 100 प्रतिशत अंतवासी होंगे तो अंत नज़दीक ही होगा? पिछले कई हज़ार सालों से तो आदि से अंत की तरफ हम बढ़ गए। अब अंत से क्या आदि की तरफ जाएंगे ?

आबू का मतलब है अब्बू या father और धाबी हिरण /gazelle का अरबी नाम है। यानी gazelle /हिरण के अब्बू/father । आबू धाबी को father of gazelle कहते है क्यूँकि आबू धाबी के बारे में पुराना कोई क़िस्सा है कि एक शिकार पार्टी हिरण को खोजते हुए ऐसी जगह पहुँच गयी जहाँ पानी था। वही जगह आज आबू धाबी है।

आदि में पानी खोज कर इंसानों ने सभ्यता को बढ़ाया । अंत भी शायद पानी खोजते हुए ही होगा । भयानक तो लगता है सुनने में मगर शायद सच यही होगा ।

Had once read that Lohia used to call the city dwellers as Antvasi or dwellers of the end. Antonyms of aboriginals/tribals which were dwellers of the beginning. Tribals lived at the 'beginning' of the civilisation and Antvasis will live towards the 'end' of civilisation. It was a 'beginning' because then everything had just begun - water, forests, birds, animals and humans. Humans even lived in the forest.

When it will be the End, everything will also end-water, forest, birds, animals.

Humans will still remain even if for a very short while-to see the end. How will the beginning and end make any sense without human beings making a sense of them.

The idea about the the antvasis came to me as I was at the World Urban Forum in Abu Dhabi for a few days. I heard something there, which I have been hearing for many years now. That in the coming years, 40 then 50 and then 70 percent of the world is going to be urban. Or according to Lohia's definition, 70 percent of the inhabitants will be the antvasis. So I started thinking that when 100% of the dwellers will be antvasis or dwellers of the end, then the end must be near. For the past several thousand years, we have moved from the beginning to the end. Now from the end, will we go towards (new) beginning?

Abu means abbu or father and is Dhabi is the Arabic name of the deer / gazelle. So Abu Dhabi literally means father of gazelle. It is called so because of is an old legend according to which a hunting party reached a spot with fresh water while it was searching and following the footsteps of the gazelle. The same place is today Abu Dhabi.

Humans began habitations by searching water. Perhaps the end will also be while searching water. Scary but likely to be true.
